Destination-specific money tips
- •Galápagos National Park entrance fee (currently $100 USD for most foreigners) is typically paid in cash upon arrival at the first island airport.
- •While USD is the currency, prices can be inflated for tourists, especially on the main inhabited islands. Bargaining is uncommon in established shops but may be possible with local vendors.
- •Credit card fees can sometimes be added by smaller establishments; confirm before purchasing. ATMs on the islands are few and can run out of cash.
- •Tipping is not mandatory but appreciated for excellent service. A 10% tip is common for guides and boat crews if satisfied.
- •Factor in the cost of inter-island travel (flights or speedboats) as this significantly adds to the budget and is often not included in tour prices.
