Destination-specific money tips

  • ATMs are common in Casablanca, but inform your bank before traveling. Use ATMs attached to reputable banks.
  • While credit cards are accepted in tourist establishments, always carry cash (MAD) for smaller shops, street vendors, and taxis.
  • Tipping is expected. In restaurants, 10-15% is standard if service isn't already included. Tip guides and drivers too.
  • Bargaining is common in souks and smaller shops. Start with an offer around 50% of the asking price and negotiate from there.
  • Be aware that prices for taxis can be inflated for tourists. Insist on using the meter or agree on a price beforehand, especially for longer journeys.
